Managing cognition

You can help manage cognitive changes with some simple changes to your daily schedule.

Here are some tips that other people living with MS have found helpful in managing cognitive changes:

  • Make a task list and reminders. Use lists, calendars and phone alerts to help you keep track of tasks and events.
  • Know when your brain is most active. Determine the time of day when you are most productive and your thinking is clearest, and try to get important tasks done during this time.
  • Keep focused. Try to keep things simple by focusing on one thing at a time. Take regular breaks to refresh your mind.
  • Exercise your mind. Give your brain a daily workout like you would work out your muscles at the gym. To keep your mind sharp, try crossword puzzles, brain training, reading or learning something new.
